CARMEN GODWIN

Carmen trained in Modern, Tap & Ballet Dance in Wales before attending Reading University to Study Psychology. She then completed her Dance Teacher Qualifications at the Jackie Palmer Stage School in High Wycombe, where she was asked to become a member of the teaching staff and she has taught there ever since! On graduating, Carmen was lucky enough to be able to work professionally whilst continuing her teaching commitments, and she performed out of term time in shows in England and Wales. She appeared in The Wycombe Swan Panto for three consecutive years, playing various good fairies, princesses and damsels in need of rescuing! She also taught for a number of years at the Nicholas Hawksmoor Primary School, Northampton, where she continued to develop her unique brand of movement Theatre, looking for new ways of introducing dance to young people in an inclusive way. Carmen has also been involved in leading dance workshops for Adventures in Motion Pictures as part of their ‘Swan Lake’ outreach programme, Milton Keynes Arts Council, Bucks County Council, Bucks Regional Dance Company and many schools throughout the South East and South Wales. She has also dabbled with professional choreography, including some work for ‘The Disney Channel’, Cabaret for ‘The Top Hat Company’, and various Charity shows around the U.K. She has completed a course run by ‘Southern Arts’, which aimed to build relationships between professional artists and schools.

Since becoming a parent, things have had to slow down a bit, but she continues to teach as much as possible, and she administrates THRIFT in her spare time!

Carmen is married to Tim and they live in West Berkshire with their two daughters, Ffion and Lucy. Although she married an English man, she is still vey proud to be Welsh!
