12
hours in your life. What do you see?
What do you hear, smell, taste? What emotions do you experience?
The Thrift flower grows almost anywhere, where other plants can't &
won't flourish. Similarly, Thrift Theatre Company seek to find ideas
for Theatre in unusual & sometimes difficult places, being inspired
by things that most people would never see or notice, anywhere &
everywhere. In buildings & architecture; the sounds and rhythms
of the street; colours, spaces, people walking past in a hurry.
12 hours,
720 minutes, 43200 seconds.
Each
filled with a different experience, a potential story.
Working over three days and two nights, THRIFT will work with young
people to explore the world they live in with fresh eyes. For 12 hours,
THRIFT artists will take them on a journey, seeking & rooting out
inspiration for a devising process. The journey will take in art galleries,
public spaces, parks, Theatre foyers, stations, shops, restaurants,
smells, tastes, sounds, people, colours, textures, movement & of
course live performance. Students will be introduced to new ways of
thinking & be encouraged to find something where it appeared there
was nothing. They will be encouraged to explore new & unique ways
of recording this journey, using digital media, analogue tape recorders
& a whole range of ideas which could be used for their A level portfolios/structured
records.
Having gathered & recorded a whole range of stimuli & experiences,
Students will then spend an intensive day playing with new ideas for
making Theatre happen. This process will be experimental in nature &
although there will be some 'talk time', the emphasis will be on practical
work, with explicit links being made between the participants practice
& that the prescribed examination practitioners they may or may
not be studying.
The workshops will be led by THRIFT artists, all of whom have a wealth
of experience in making Theatre happen. Their content will depend on
the specialism of the artist & the interests/needs of the participants.
